All these contemporary wood mirror sculptures are individually handmade to a high standard of craftsmanship by Tony Hinde. His country workshop and studio are based south of Nairn in the Scottish Highlands.
The Inspiration
Tony Hinde’s life long love of the beauty of Nature in the wild unspoilt countryside is the inspiration behind the sculptural mirrors he has designed and handcrafted. These highly unusual and totally unique pieces of applied art provide a focal point for an entrance hall or room and will always be a talking point! Tony combines the natural beauty found in the shape of tree boughs and roots with the reflective and light bringing qualities of mirror glass in order to create spectacular artistic pieces of craftsmanship.
The Wood
In the ancient Caledonian forests of Scotland, on bleak moor land and on the shores of remote lochs Tony searches for special pieces of wood which will fulfil his requirements for creating one of these pieces of art. The wood he uses is often hundreds of years old and will have ‘witnessed’ the passing of many generations of people and their history. The wood, already long dead, is carefully dried before being designed and handmade into the finished piece. It is a difficult and precise work and involves a high standard of craftsmanship and all the experience Tony has built up over many years of working in wood.
